Like us, Barratt's business started with just one man; company founder Lawrie Barratt. From whom the business gets its name and whose introduction into construction began with when Lawrie (a then accountant) decided to build his own home in lieu of being able to afford to buy one. Consequently it was a decision that changed his course in history, and set the wheels in motion for Barratt to become one of Britain's most prominent house builders. The company grew rapidly from then on. Listing on the London stock exchange just a decade after launching, and selling more than 3000 homes by the mid 1970s. In much the same was as we at Mackoy have experienced equal unprecedented growth in our first decade in business. Another similarity our two businesses share.
Today, Barratt's commitment to creating quality new British homes is as pertinent as ever, and since first partnering with the developer in 2013 we've worked with Barratt MD Ian Wallace to create infrastructure for more than 248 new south coast homes, including our recent £5.5 million contract appointment in Whitchurch. Culminating in a total of £15 million of business undertaken with the developer to date. Needless to say, we're proud to count such a long-established leader in the UK property sector among our core pool of Mackoy clients.
