It’s been a busy first half of 2018 for Mackoy, and the pace isn’t about to slow down yet (not that we want it to). In fact, as of just this week, our groundworkers are now on site in yet another exciting housing project for the UK. This time up in Binfield, Berkshire. Where we’ve teamed up with two of the country’s biggest homebuilders in a development set to bring 420 new houses to the local area.

Mackoy have successfully tendered and won the contract for phase 1 of the Bloor Homes development in Binfield. Securing a £5 million pound deal as part of a consortium package with Linden Homes.
The arrangement will see Mackoy deliver the entire groundworks infrastructure to phase 1 of the Binfield site. With completion scheduled for June 2019, just 12 months from the point of first breaking ground.
Mackoy’s package for Linden Homes and Bloor Homes will see new roads created in the area, in addition to the 420 2,3 and 4 bedroom houses planned for the site. Delivering a much-needed housing boost to Binfield, as well as providing the sewerage and groundworks infrastructure needed to support such a large-scale new community.
But it’s not only local homeowners that will benefit from the new Wood Lane development. At the centre of the scheme, known as The Fairways, sits a 1,800 capacity school (King’s Academy Binfield). Which will accommodate students from nursery age through to sixth form years. There’ll also be 13 hectares of designated natural green space on the site, with provisions for sports and leisure facilities. Making The Fairways a hub for social and wellbeing activities in the area. Enriching the wider Binfield constituency, as well as the new The Fairways community.
For Mackoy owner Mike Mayock, the £5 million pound deal offers an exciting opportunity to team up with two of Britain’s biggest name homebuilders in Bloor Homes and Linden Homes. As well as the chance to expand our groundworks and civil engineering contracts into more Southern counties. With Mackoy now operating in Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire, East & West Sussex, Berkshire and Oxfordshire.

As well as the onsite facilities being built residents of The Fairways new 2,3 and 4 bedroom homes will also be able to enjoy Binfield’s three village pubs, as well as close proximity to a chemist, post office, take-aways and a convenience store all on foot. Not to mention The Fairway’s picturesque and leafy location at the foothills of Binfield’s already thriving village.
The Wood Lane location was further chosen by Bloor Homes for its excellent access links to the M4 motorway (1.7 miles from the site). As well as its rail routes via Bracknell train station, just 2 miles away. Providing excellent transport links to Reading, London, and the wider South coast. Bracknell is also a thriving employment hub in itself, with high-profile organisations including Waitrose, Honda and Fujitsu, among those headquartered locally. Offering those moving to The Fairways excellent commuting distance to town, as well as a wealth of local job opportunities in the region.
Mackoy will have a big presence on the Bloor Homes site as the first of the groundworks infrastructure takes shape, with approximately 20-30 men (5 gangs) assigned to the job. We’ll be recruiting from within our existing 300+ work pool, as well as taking on qualified and experienced groundworkers for the duration of the 12-month build.
